The running of the Club in 2014 - PDTC needs YOU!
It is that time of year when we need to look at the running of the Club for the coming year, the Club is run for the members by the members and for that we rely on volunteers to help.
So what is involved in being on the Committee of Plymouth Dog Training Club?
Typically the committee meets one evening every 4-6 weeks on a date convenient to most members (no more than 10 meetings a year) to discuss Club matters.
At each meeting we also work out who will man the tables (duty) for the next month which involves taking the money of existing members, welcoming new members, and issuing membership cards etc., this is usually no more than once or twice a month, on a night convenient to you and you will be given full training prior to undertaking the first duty and the great thing is you get to pat as many puppies as you like, a dog lovers paradise!
Helping to organise and run our shows and charity events. Our two day Open shows are held in May and October at Lee Moor and we really do have a job for everyone, this could be making the tea, setting up tents, stewarding in a show ring…… you do not need to be a show expert and many hands make light work, its also a great chance to see some of the UKs top obedience dogs competing for the prizes on offer! We also put on the occasional fund raising event for the charities that we support each year and again help for this is essential, as well as good ideas.
You don’t need to be training a dog in one of our classes to be on the committee, maybe you are already member who comes with a family member each week, could you be helping out?
We know our members come from a wide variety of backgrounds and have varying skills to offer, be it tea making or cake baking to book-keeping or secretarial skills, it is essential to the smooth, successful running of the club that we have helpers such as you to keep the wheels in motion. Clubs like ours provide a valuable service to the community and we can only do that with help from members.
We need a Secretary, could that be you?
This is a somewhat more challenging role than a committee member, but is also a very rewarding role that some of you may feel you could fulfil. The team running the Club at present is supportive and we would really welcome some new input from our talented members.
